1.Albino Girl, 11, killed and beheaded in Swaziland 'for witchcraft'

The child had been washing clothes and bathing at a river with friends and was returning home when she was grabbed by a man wearing a balaclava.

As her friends looked on, the man shot her in the back before dragging her away. Her headless body was found upriver a short time later.

The murder is the latest in a series of albino killings in Sub-Saharan Africa, where sufferers of the rare skin pigmentation condition are concentrated.

Earlier this year, another 11-year-old albino child was killed close to the same spot in Swaziland and her hand was removed.

Police believe both children may have been targeted because of a belief by witch doctors that the blood and body parts of albinos - who lack pigment in their eyes, hair and skin - can bring good luck and fortune when used in potions.

This article shows that there are some bad things going on in Swaziland. I read many articles about how their King was doing many things that the people did not like, or were socially unacceptable, but nobody was stopping him. There were many, many people complaining, but no one was actively doing anything about it. I think this shows that there may be a bad outlook on the country because if the king is bad, and no one will stop him, what will he do next?

2. Poor sanitation, poverty behind Swazi diarrhea outbreak

A nationwide outbreak of diarrhea attributed to rotavirus has claimed the lives of nearly 40 young children in Swaziland during the past month and highlighted the need for better sanitation and clean water in schools and homes. 3,042 cases had been recorded in the four regions of the country.

The Health Ministry has been promoting good hygiene which is likely the cause of the rotavirus outbreak.

Nearly a third of Swaziland’s population lack access to safe drinking water. The majority of rural households rely on communal water taps or draw water from local rivers and wells.

Projects to bring clean water to more rural residents are ongoing in all four of the country’s provinces. Swaziland is also developing a modern sanitation system, but sewer lines connect only to residences, schools, churches and businesses that have accounts with the Swaziland Water Services Corporation (SWSC), which adds a 50 percent surcharge on water consumption to pay for connections. Most rural Swazis are not connected, and depend on pit latrines or the bush to relieve themselves.

Andrew Mkhonta, a medical consultant doing research for a social welfare NGO, suggested that Swaziland’s worsening poverty levels could be a factor in the spreading of the rotavirus.

Schools in Swaziland are financed primarily by school fees with the government’s education budget going mainly towards teachers’ salaries. As a result, many schools cannot afford to install plumbing and drill wells.

I think that this article is a very bad one and shows a lot about the country. Many people have been infected with this virus, and I think that it will continue infecting people quickly. However, there are things that the country is doing in order to try and stop it such as putting up a modern sanitation system throughout the country. They are taking steps to ensure better overall health.

These rules include: washing your hands before and after the meal, eat from your plate with your right hand; never use your left hand unless something requires two hands, utensils are held in the right hand, and never put  your left hand on any bowls or serving items.
